🎶 "Songs of Self: A Workshop and Self Care Guide for Purpose & Balance Through Music, Dance, and Reflection
🌟 Introduction
This workshop is rooted in the belief that each of us has a song within — a life rhythm shaped by experience, purpose, struggle, and potential. As a certified Transformation Academy facilitator in Purpose Discovery and the Wheel of Balance, I guide participants through structured, reflective approaches to uncover clarity, restore balance, and align with their inner calling.
But rather than relying only on words, we bring the language of music into the process. Music bypasses our mental defenses. It speaks directly to our emotions, memories, and intuition — making it a perfect partner for deep reflection and self-exploration.
Whether it’s a lyric that breaks something open or a rhythm that moves us into awareness, music helps us tap into who we really are and what truly matters.
🛞 The Wheel of Balance
Origin: Popularized by coaching pioneers and adapted by Transformation Academy, the Wheel of Life (or Balance) is a snapshot tool used to assess your satisfaction across 8–10 core areas of life.
Application:
Participants rate how fulfilled they feel in areas like:
- Health
- Relationships
- Career
- Spirituality
- Fun
- Finances
- Environment
- Personal growth
The shape of their “wheel” reveals imbalances and opportunities for realignment. Even small changes in low-scoring areas can unlock higher energy, confidence, and presence in daily life.
How Music Fits:
Each domain can be explored through music moods or thematic lyrics. For example, a song like “I Am Light” by India.Arie can support journaling around identity and spirituality, while a song like “Fast Car” by Tracy Chapman may open reflection on freedom, movement, or financial struggle.
🌄 Purpose Work
Origin: The Purpose Quest method, central to Transformation Academy’s coaching system, invites participants to discover their life purpose by exploring six foundational "stepping stones":
- Childhood influences
- Personality traits
- Passions
- Talents
- Life path
- Limiting beliefs
Application:
This approach helps people connect the dots across life experiences and inner drives to craft a personal Purpose Statement—a compass for future decision-making, career alignment, and fulfillment.
How Music Fits:
Music is used as both a mirror and portal:
- It helps uncover passions (what moves you)
- It helps recall defining life moments (through emotional memory)
- It helps express identity when words fall short
For example, John Prine’s “Hello in There” can stir memories of compassion and loneliness, connecting us to our desire to serve or heal. Purpose begins not in goals, but in resonance — and music brings that resonance to life.
